Cupping therapy
Here at Classic massage Clinic we offer complimentary cupping with your massage, which has many benefits for your body. Cupping therapy was a technique that originated in China. There cupping is thought to bring out toxins such as the cold or flu. By bring them up to the surface it helps speed up the healing process.
Benefits of Cupping
Cupping therapy has a great many benefits for your body. One is that cupping can loosen the fascia (layer in-between the skin and muscles) so the massage therapist is able to massage through deeper and isn’t fighting the first layer. I have found that fascia tends to be very tight on people that have a lot of daily stress or a personality that is prone to anxiety. So by cupping it can help to release some of that tension, making the massage more effective. It is also great for loosening up muscle around the shoulder blade to help improve shoulder mobility. Cupping is often used for athletes to help improve blood flow and it works great on the iliotibial band (IT band). It helps to decrease pain and with the pulling feeling some people get when the IT band is too tight.
Cupping has a lot of overall benefits, helping increase blood flow, speed up sports injuries, break up scare tissue and bring in blood flow to that area, and many other things.
Adding Cupping to your massage
I used cupping therapy for the first time in high school, for me made it so I could feel the affects of the massage longer and made it so I could sit all day at school without pain. I also played soccer when I was getting cupping treatments, it helped make me feel less sore after running. Cupping is something I use along with massage, it doesn’t take away from the massage, but adds to it. At Classic we use plastic cups with a pump that creates a suction. Some of our therapist keep the cups in one spot while others keep them moving. I like to evaluate the clients problem area and use whatever I think is best for your body and what it can handle.
